Maintenance Technician II

Position Summary: Responsible to maintain and keep the production equipment operating to ensure productivity. The Maintenance Technician II will be responsible for the repair of automatic assembly equipment, robotic equipment, MIG and resistance welding equipment, Metal Stamping equipment, and Laser cutting Equipment. The Maintenance Technician II may be assigned to any maintenance department function as needed.

Required Education and Work Experience:

  • Associates Degree with four years of work related experience. Will consider eight years work related experience without degree.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Hands on Equipment troubleshooting
  • Ensures documentation of work using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), IQMS and complete work orders as assigned
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand and/or power tools
  • Use various test equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blue prints and repair manuals as necessary
  • Recover and reteach robots
  • Restore robot software after catastrophic failure
  • Troubleshoot PLC programs, Field Bus Applications, HMI programs, and at times alter the program to aid the troubleshooting process
  • Work with the Engineering department with the setup of new equipment
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance

  • Language/Communication skillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.   • Reasoning Ability – Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient computer skills – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Good understanding of AC and DC electrical circuits (able to use OHM’s law)
  • Good understanding of Servo Drive systems
  • Good understanding of PLC controlled machinery and able to read the program logic
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
  • Ability to use hand tools and/or power tools to make repairs to production equipment

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, reach overhead,  handle, feel objects, use tools and controls, turn wrenches,  talk, hear, see, bend, push, pull, climb, squat, kneel, stoop,  balance, crawl, and lift up to 70lbs.  This position requires use of tools and controls.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment/Conditions: The plant environment noise level is loud.  Although the plant is climate controlled, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.  PPE consisting of a hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, long sleeves, and ear plugs, must be worn at all times when entering and working in the plant.  Special PPE will be provided to the employee such as respirators and must be worn when working in certain areas of the plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving equipment, moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, dust, vibration, weld sparks/flash, chemicals when working on the Ecoating system/tanks, sharp metal parts, and smoke.  The Maintenance Technician II is assigned a fire resistant (FR) shirt that must be worn at all times when entering and working in the welding department. Gloves must be worn while handling parts. There will be exposure to heights when using scissor lift, walking on mezzanines, climbing stairs, using ladders, and accessing control panels.
